Building a Better Battery
"How is the advanced battery business these days? It
depends where you aim your sights. If they are trained
on Texaco Ovonic Battery Systems, the answer is a good
one because this firm recently opened its new 170,000
square foot battery manufacturing plant in Springboro,
Ohio, more than doubling the size of the plant it replaced.
Partially owned by ChevronTexaco, Texaco Ovonic Battery
Systems is helping bring advanced nickel metal-hydride
(NiMH) batteries into widespread commercial production
for battery electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles.
Future annual production capacity at the plant is estimated
at 1.2 million battery modules when fully quipped."
